For the greater part of the last century until today, FMC's sprawling 90-acre complex has
played a key role in the growth of the company's Agricultural Products Group
(APG), but also in the heritage of the Village of Middleport. Originally founded
as the
Niagara Sprayer Company in 1904, the plant was purchased by FMC in 1943
and became the headquarters for its agricultural products business.
Today, APG headquarters are in Philadelphia. Although formerly a chemical
manufacturing facility, the Middleport plant is strictly a formulations plant,
mixing and packaging a number of key product lines used on nearly 100 different
crops in more than 75 countries around the world.
FMC is proud to be one of the largest employers in Middleport. We have a
dedicated and loyal workforce demonstrated by low employee turnover. FMC is a
significant contributor to the Niagara and Orleans County communities and is
supportive of the United Way, American Red Cross, Royalton-Hartland School District
and many community groups.
A Reliable Neighbor
We encourage our neighbors to learn more about our plant.
Many community groups and near-neighbors have toured or have had presentations
about our plant and onsite water treatment facility. Tours of Middleport's Mixing
and Packaging operation can be arranged by calling (716) 735-3761, ext. 289.
FMC is committed to the Responsible Care initiative and its principles of:
Community awareness and emergency response
Pollution prevention
Process safety
Employee health and safety
Product Stewardship
In Middleport, we have put these principles to work in support of an open relationship
with the community and as a good neighbor.
The Middleport plant has achieved ISO 9002 certification, which signifies adherence to
stringent international standards for quality control throughout all plant operations.
Throughout our facility, state-of-the-art controls ensure a high level of protection for
our employees, neighbors and the environment.
Safety and the Environment — Core Values
FMC has invested more than $10 million in the latest technology to
ensure safe operation of its Middleport plant. Additional investments of at least
$200,000 annually are made to upgrade safety equipment and training, pollution
prevention and environmental controls.
Our comprehensive safety program ensures a safe workplace for both our employees
and our neighbors. The program includes:
A professionally trained onsite emergency response team
Annual drills with local fire departments
Being an active charter member of the community's Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
Keeping a strong connection with national chemical safety networks (e.g., HAZMAT)
